Top 5 Sunseeker Yachts That Crushed the Competition

Originally named Poole Power Boats, and born from a dream to create a completely new kind of boat, the company we now know as Sunseeker was founded by Robert Braithwaite in 1969.

In the modern day, the Sunseeker brand has grown to include a team of over two thousand boat designers, craftsmen and engineers. It is a worldwide name that is known by those both in and out of the yachting industry and it’s ever increasing standards ensure it stays ahead of the game.

Read on to see our top 5 Sunseeker Yachts that crushed the competition as compiled by the team at MIY Yacht Co-ownership.

Sunseeker Sovereign 17

The premier Sunseeker yacht (although at the time of it’s conception Sunseeker was known as Poole Powerboats) had to be on the list. This is such an iconic yacht it even featured in James Bond - Quantum of Solace. In the scene James Bond is taken by his captain to Mathis’ villa in Italy. The captain also happens to be Sunseeker International’s managing director Robert Braithwaite CBE - the boat and it’s cameo were an overall success for what we now know as Sunseeker.

Tomahawk 37

One of the most famous Sunseeker yachts, and what many refer to as the  original high performance Sunseeker, the Tomahawk 37 had to have a space on our list.

This was the flashier version of it’s precedent, the XPS34. With the iconic Sunseeker classic lines to the slender hull, and wide beamed yet compact, the Tomahawk 37 cuts through the water with extreme elegance and style making her an original Sunseeker classic. Engines were available from 2 300hp diesels up to 500hp 7.4-litre petrol V8s to reach top speeds of 35-55 knots.

The Tomahawk 37 was so well loved that areas of some marinas in the exclusive French Riviera were held exclusively for this yacht.

Predator 108

Another James Bond star, the Sunseeker Predator 108 yacht featured in the 2008 Quatum of Solace as the villain Le Chiffre’s own private refuge. This yacht was also a record breaking Sunseeker as the first Sunseeker sportscruiser over 100ft and is considered by many to be Sunseeker’s most attractive superyacht.

And this yacht really is a sight to behold, not only for it’s sleek style but also its features that rivalled that of a 5 star hotel including a jacuzzi on the foredeck. This yacht boasts triple 2,000hp MTUs on Arneson surface drives.

Portofino 31

Boasting a large cockpit capable of hosting parties and a convertible sunbed this yacht was perfect for day boating but also included a full galley, and accommodated up to 4 guests. Within 5 years, the Portofino 31 had sold over 250 units and proved itself to be a popular yacht the world over, but particularly in the med.  The Portofino 31 was proceeded by its sister yacht the Portofino 32 which proved to be even more aesthetically pleasing and furthered the success of this range. This yacht can reach speeds of up to 34-35 knots from two 200hp Volvo AQAD41s.

Manhattan 52

Making it into the Sunseeker Hall of Fame as the fastest-selling Sunseeker in history, this yacht is still loved by many to this day, alongside its updated version  - the Manhattan 55. There was an exceptional figure of 100 Manhattan 52 yachts built in the first 1.5 years after its inception. For many it is the perfect first Sunseeker yacht to purchase, boasting a range of new innovations including bow seating and a beach club at the stern. It is still to this day one of Sunseeker’s most attractive yachts.

While these are our top 5, the list of incredible Sunseekers is non-exhaustive. This is a brand that dominates in the yachting industry and a quick google of ‘Sunseeker for sale’ will demonstrate the price range which can go up to over an indredible £20 million!

While there is no denying that Sunseeker yachts are worth every penny, for those who don’t have these kind of dispensable funds yacht share may well be a viable alternative - and one that could come with more benefits than owning your own Sunseeker outright.

Yacht share - also referred to as yacht co-ownership, fractional yacht ownership and yacht syndication - is the model in which you buy a fraction of the yacht, in our case one eighth, and enjoy the full benefits of yacht ownership with 6 weeks onboard annually.

And we’ve done our research - this is more time than the average yacht owner actually gets to spend onboard and enjoy their luxurious purchase. When you enter into a yacht share network with a professional yacht share company such as MIY Yacht Co-ownership, that company will generally take care of the maintenance and upkeep of your yacht.

Further benefits of the MIY model include our premium concierge service, on hand at any time to ensure your time onboard is seamless and enjoyable - we can organise anything from tickets to entertainment venues or dinner reservations at your destination, to organising for your belongings to be onboard for you ready to set off on your trip.

If owning a luxury yacht such as a Sunseeker is a goal of yours, head over to MIY Yacht for our fleet and yacht share availability in your desired destination.
