Crete is an absolute ‘must see’ of the beautiful Greek islands. It is home to everything from glorious beaches - 112 of which can boast ‘blue flag’ status - to mythical ruins and delicious cuisine.

Take your yacht to Elounda gulf on the north-east coast for calm azure waters and white pebbled beaches. This area is great for watersports, and our yacht ownership concierge can organise everything from wake boarding and snorkelling to kitesurfing or jet skiing.

Adventurers can take a leisurely cruise out to the island of Spinalonga, just off the north-east coast and the last Cretan stronghold to be captured by the Ottomans. Explore its 16th-century Venetian fortress and the eerie, abandoned leper colony. Alternatively, take a trip to the Lasithi Plateau, rich with fruit orchards and a vast array of windmills. The Dikteon Cave is situated here - an important landmark in Greek mythology where legend has it that it is the birthplace of Zeus, king of all the Greek gods. Head to the Roman ruins in Gortyn or take in the wonder of the Phaistos Palace and its incredible views.

Those looking for a laid back day onshore should stop off at the historic port in Chania's old quarter. Get lost in the maze of winding cobbled streets where every turn has a sight to see. Pop in and out of the artisan shops or stop off at one of the picturesque outdoor cafes set amongst the Venetian ruins.

Crete is famous for its cuisine - we love Houmas Taverna by Grameno beach, it’s perfect to stop off after a long day at sea with the dining terrace only a few steps from the beach. Or for those with a particularly sophisticated palate, pop across the street to Taverna To Grameno, home to some of the finest Cretan cuisine, and try the braised octopus in red wine, or snails in tomato sauce. 

The sunset is best enjoyed from the sundeck of your yacht but if you’re looking for a change of scenery, the views from the Blue Palace Resort’s Isola beach club are incredible. For those in the mood for a party stay until night time and you may be lucky enough to experience one of their full moon parties.
