Frequently Asked Questions

Are boat timeshares worth it?

If you want to take the boat out daily or weekly, it's probably worth purchasing outright. That way, you have complete freedom. However, as the average owner will probably only use their yacht for around 6 weeks a year, and if you prefer to have someone else take care of the upkeep, a timeshare, or better still a yacht co-ownership model is the smarter decision.

How does yacht sharing work?

Shared yacht ownership is exactly what it sounds like—you buy a share or fraction of a yacht and for a period of time, the yacht is yours! With MIY Yacht you can at least 6 weeks a year, with guaranteed usage in the peak season. In that sense, it differs from timeshare where you only purchase the rights of usage for a certain amount of time and end up with no return when the term expires. Yacht shares can also be referred to as fractional yacht ownership, yacht co-ownership and yacht syndication.

Should I buy or rent a boat?

Renting is an option for those who do not have long term interest in the yacht lifestyle. Buying is for those who have the knowledge and time for upkeep of the yacht and would use it on a regular basis throughout the year. For everyone in between, fractional yacht ownership is the smart choice. Buying yacht shares allows you to enjoy the benefits of yacht ownership, but at a much lower price and without the maintenance hassle. Our yacht share network is the obvious way to enjoy this wonderful lifestyle.

How big can a yacht be without a crew?

75 feet - With the appropriate boat licenses, you can typically operate a boat up to 75 feet without a crew. However, most yachts need crew for docking, launching, caring for guests, and watching for danger or other boats. Our yacht syndication model comes with an optional concierge service, which can organize crew for any of our yachts.
